I,m a fellow cruiser and shall be going on msc melody in july [first time with this company]. i have two kids and just really don't know what to expect, i've found an assortment of reviews on th net, some good, some bad sorry i haven't answered you're question, but just letting you know their is someone else looking for answers also. have a good holiday.
Thanks for your reply. I would be interested to know how you get on.
We travelled recently on MSC. My 11 year old did not like the look of the kids club as he thought it looked a bit 'babyish'. He is usually keen to join in but not this time, I think he was apprehensive as english speaking kids were in the minority and another passenger who had a child of similar age said the kids were unruly and not very well supervised in the kids club. Just a couple of points as you are travelling with kids. Unlike other cruise lines where you can help yourself to water, tea coffee and juice at the buffet area, on MSc you cannot help yourself at the dispensers. You have to get waiter service and is only freely available during the buffett opening hours. At other times you will have to go the the bars for coffee and tea which is chargeable. Also there are no alternative dining options for the kids in the evening. The buffet becomes a bistro for which there is a cover charge. It may be better to take the early dining seating. There is a kids menu which was pretty good and did vary and there was always chicken breast, thin steak spag bol and chips available from the main menu. They will also try to ply you with purchasing bottled water. Do not be afraid to ask for a jug of iced water with your meal. Also dont know what time of year you are thinking of cruising but be warned pool is not heated, so no good for cooler weather.
Exactly the sort of info I was after! Thanks very much - nice to make contact with other british cruisers with kids. We usually go Royal caribbean, who do kids brilliantly, and we rarely come across British families only older couples. We've also been with PO.
We are just considering MSC but are a little scared of getting anything less that Royal Cribbean/P&O standards. Keeping the kids busy and happy makes our holiday. Your answer is very useful especially the bit about food and drink! Thank you.
