Find Your Cruise
Went with Thompson on the Celebration 2006, on the trip to the North Cape, the captain was Norwegian, called himself the BBC. Very good trip went right into the Fiords would recommend this company than F. Olsen's.

We went on that cruise last august but it was on Thomson Spirit. We went to Bergen , stevenger, flam,Geiranger which are all beautiful fjords and lots of nice trips off the ship.
The Black Watch is a nice ship is only a small ship which i like that holds about 850 passengers and 350 crew. The ship is decorated in soft lovely colours and theres wood panelling stairways are wide. The foods good and most of the staff are philapino who are friendly.
I have been on the Black Watch and have sworn never to cuise with Fred Olson again.
Yes, they do cruise into the smaller Fjords as well as the large ones. Fred Olsen are excellant at cruising around Norway and the Artic sea's, it's their home waters. Unlike some other cruise companies and larger ships.Don't expect new glamorous ships, they are not and maybe a couple of them are becoming a little tired. You will be treated as part of the family and as for the culinary Fayre, you get with Olsen's what you pay extra for, on other C/Lines.
Always remember if you have a problem, speak to someone.
If you need something, ask for it, as they do listen and help to resolve your little niggles. That's what they are there for.
I totally agree with the Medhurst answer. Black Watch is a liner of the old fashioned style, an excellent sea keeping ship. Having cruised with 6 different lines I have found the Fred Olsen staff, are, at all levels, outstanding. I have cruised the Norwegian Fjords 5 times. The scenery is breathtaking! A word of warning. This is, of course, weather dependant. Enjoy!
I have also cruised with Fred Olson and I would never cruise with them again Tea Dances And Bingo are not my Cup of Tea(Excuse The Pun) Even SAGA complained about the Entertainment Dont forget your Zimmer

We went to north cape on the black watch about 5 years ago and had a wonderful time.As it was my wifes first cruise i wanted it to be good so picked fred olsen line. I had been amongst the fiords many times as an engineer with B.P. servicing bunker depots and always ranted on about the great scenery. My wife could not believe how fantastic the trip was and still claims it was our best. ( we have done 7 cruises now ). We were going to have a shoreside holiday but at the last minute have decided on another cruise so we are going to have a second trip to north cape. Have no fears, you will enjoy this experience. Ron Pearson. Whitley Bay .
Go for it David and make up your own mind after the trip,
Ican tell you you will enjoy it,my daughter sailed on the Saga Rose and said it is a fantastic trip.Reg Gouldso.
We went on Black Watch in June 2007 to North Cape and Russia and having cruised many times on Fred Olsen Ships this Cruise we enjoyed the most. The scenery was amazing and once north of Bergen you are sailing through the Islands and Fiords, to sit in the Observatory lounge at 1-30 am with the midnight sun on the Horizon is magical.
The Black Watch as with all Fred's ships are smaller but so much friendlier than the large ones, the comments made by someone about tea dances and bingo I have to totally disagree with.
You will find plenty to do and the staff are second to none they are great fun and always there to assist, the food is great as is the entertainment, so sit back relax be pampered and watch wonderful scenery go by [enjoy].
Cruised on the Black Watch 3 years ago to Spitsbergen 600 miles of the North Pole.
We started a Bergen, calling at Olden,Tromso and Honigsvarg which is the port of call for the North Cape.
The Passage was up the inside of all the small Island also visiting some of the small Fjords.
You will see a lot of wildlife, including the possiblity of Whales.
We are Fred Olsen Cruisers, we are going to Med on Balmoral later this year.
Fred Olsen ships are very friendly.
