Dear Downs- I have no intention of putting anyone's security at risk(and ludicrous it is for you to suggest this) as I said, you obviously do not have these 'security' concerns over on cruise critic where you post in your actual names so I cant understand why you think your security wont be 'compromised' over on that website, or am I missing something? I do hope that will not stop you from posting your gems of wisdom on here.

Ibis and Novotel are right opposite the port gates - pretty basic stuff - but right by West Quay shopping centre which has a very nice John Lewis which has a super rooftop restaurant with great views! Slightly better is the DeVere Grand Harbour, and there is a Holiday Inn a bit further away.

Ida and Neil Down - Answered a Question by taylor (15 Feb 08 16:39)

I mentioned the Hilton on the outskirts of Southampton with transport to and from the docks just a couple of days ago but if you have expensive tastes the De Vere Grand Harbour is a 5 star hotel close to both docks and a little way up the road and closer to the P&O, Princess and RCI berths is the Ibis and the Novotel which are reasonable in price and Jurys Inn a little further away. On the less expensive side but slightly further from the docks there are Premier Travel Inns and Holiday Inns. There are several B&Bs near the docks but you have to remember living as we do here we do not stay in the hotels , only visit them for social occasions….Hope that helps Nei.

Sorry once more, I forgot to pass on my warmest greetings to “Dollan of Washington” whose critical acclaim is as about as comprehensible as the dialect and who thinks it is clever to tell everyone our identity….Nei.

We have nothing against Niel and Ida Down AKA David and Jean (Sorry we sussed you out!) But we and many more would love to know truthfully how many cruises you have done and roughly your age group! You seem to be more knowledgeable than Douglas Ward. No offence meant.

And my warmest greetings to you Oh Downs!- David and Jean- you have no qualms about using your real names on cruise critic website so they are in the public domain- Just a point to take nore- its 'Dolan' with one 'L', I think its important we get the names right if we are to have a rapport, dont you think? and secondly, the post was made by my partner, who is of Portuguese origin and does not have the 'dialect' that you so ungraciously refer to, a slight on millions of geordies I might add, however- Southampton - Newcastle...no contest at all! I look forward to reading your informative and factual advice on this sit.

Well we are call Ann & Jim (real names well ok James actually) do we have to use aliases or are people worried about their privacy, if so perhaps silence would be a better tact than going public. As for the hotels we stayed just outside of Southampton,(not really by choice because the Boat Show was on and every hotel was fully booked) and I suppose you pay your money and take your choice and lets face it so long as the bed is clean it has running hot water and no ring marks around the bath it is only for one night before you have a wonderful cruise.
