Have had several Christmas cruises with Costa have enjoyed them all.Christmas dinner is served Christmas Eve as usual in Europe it is usaally candlelit and carols playing whilst you dine , and Mass at midnight is again in 5 Languages there tends to be a fair amount of Brits on board as most Europeans stay home for Christmas. The ships are usually lovely with huge Christmas trees waiters with Santa hats New Year is a different matter and all hell breaks out if you like to party this is the place to be but every cabin that takes 4 people will have 4 people and one cruise had 700 children on board You may also get a late deal as Christmas is not as popular as New Year On the basis of dont knock it till youve tried it give it a go Im sure you will love it Sue in Sunny Spai.
Have only been on one Costa Cruise and it wasn't at Christmas. My overall opinion of Costa is that at least 50% of passengers are Italian who seem to travel in large family groups, very noisy, and don't believe in chastising children or them going to bed too early. Although it is not for me, it wouldn't do if we all liked the same thing, would it? If you are under 50 and travelling with youngsters I think it will be fine. Have a lovely time.
We've travelled with Costa before, the Costa Magica, and had a wonderful time, so much so that we are travelling with them again in November, on the same ship. Food is excellent as are the shows. Cabins are kept spotless, with regular deliveries of fresh fruit. The only problem we had was that all announce are in six different languages but after a short time you'll soon get used to it. You will enjoy yourselves, nothing is too much trouble for the crew.
We have been on the Costa Victoria and thoroughly enjoyed it. We went in the summer holidays and it was of course with children on board, which was fine with us, as with all ships there is a limit to the amount of child spaces allowed for safety reasons, we were on the 8th deck and found it to be very quiet, perhaps the lower decks have more children due to costs. The cruise liners are very spacious, passengers are well looked after, food is very good as is the entertainment. Perhaps look for a review on the individual costa ship you are looking at going on. We were not dissappointed with our cruise except for going on a full Ephesus tour, which left us with little souvenier shopping time and a wasted visit to a carpet shop - unless you want a carpet dont go, take the shorter tour. We were on the Aegian highlights cruise. With Costa you also pay a service charge of 6 euros per adult per day and 4 euros per child per day [instead of tipping] which we found okay, this is charged to your account at the end of the cruise. Majority of passengers will be continental but language is not a problem on board. Have a great time.
Have to agree with previous reviewer Costa is mainly used by Italian and Spanish passengers who all seem to travel with 'extended' family groups. If you have young children this will work in your favour as the crew fuss over them. The menu has lots of pasta dishes so if you aren't keen on pasta you may find your choices restricted. Also its difficult to make friends if you only speak English. The ship was comfortable but personally I have other lines I prefer to cruise with. We tried one of RCI newest bigger ships last month and found it too much. On sea days the public areas where all crowded in comparison to smaller ship so I guess you learn by experience. Hope you have a great cruise.
Cannot give opinion on Xmas cruise- but with regard to Costa generally, if you are a non smoker - forget it. 0n some ships even non smoking areas are so situated that smokers can walk through them enroute to another bar.etc!! I do not know how they are adapting to our smoking laws - but being Italian and always carrying a large proportion of smokers
y guess is things will be pretty much the same. We have been with Costa four times - and you can have a good cruise experience with them - but after our last one on Victoria when she was new,the food and service was so bad and the smoking such a problem we vowed never to go with them again....and we stick to our Royal Caribbean,Celebrity and P & 0 favourites.
