We are going on QM2 end Feb to Caribbean and have just received our itinerary from Cunard. On this it states
3 nights Formal Dress code Black tie or formal dark suit for gentlemen and evening dress or other formal attire for ladies.
4 semi formal nights - dress code Jacket and tie for gentlemen, cocktail dress or trouser suit for ladies. No Jeans.
4 Elegant Casual - dress code Jacket - no tie required for gentlemen - dress, skirt or trousers for ladies - NO JEANS
Whilst I have not cruised with Cunard before only with P & O I cannot imagine Cunard would allow anyone to wear jeans in ANY of the formal dining rooms. It could well be that if people have worn jeans they have opted to eat elsewhere rather than the dining room. As for the food and entertainment I cannot comment but other than what I have read on this website I would say that this would not be a problem. Of course food and entertainment is entirely relative to the person eating or being entertained, as one man's meat is another man's poison.
Finally I would say that if you have any reservations at all about anything regarding dress code/food/entertainment etc to contact Cundard direct who I have found to be extremely helpful.
Hi - We have just returned from New York / QM2 Caribbean cruise and I can not praise it enough. The Brittania food is fantastic, there is a excellent choice for each course, if you want something cooked differently or an ingredient left out it is not a problem and if you want something a little more simple they are more than happy to oblige. You really will have no issuse with the food whatsoever I can promise you that.
With respect to the dress codes, we found Cunard to be strict with the codes in the Britannia however if (on a formal night) you chose to eat is one of the other restrants such as the King Court (Bufett) the dress code was not policed however we did not see any jeans worn at all the whole trip.
We were dissapointed to see people in the buffett area during the day in swim suits however Cunard stopped this very quickly by way of a message from the Cruise Director.
The entertainment is as you would imagine, lots of "Big Band" nights and ballroom dancing with splashes of upbeat, they are not the best and I have ever seen but well above average.
All in all I can not praise the curise and cunard enough - I would go again in an instant and am already booked for 2009. I know you will be looked after so very well please do not have any worries about your trip at all.
If you have any further ??? please do not hesitate to contact me and if you are interested in even more info I have all the menus from the Britannina that I would be happy to mail you.
We have cruised on QM2 twice and thoroughly enjoyed the experience both times. We found the quality of both food and service to be of a high standard in the Britannia restaurant. We certainly didn't encounter people wearing jeans on formal nights and felt that the standard of evening wear generally was of a higher calibre than many other cruise lines. The entertainment was excellent although we wish they would have more show team productions and less cabaret shows. We would recommend QM2 to anyone and think you will be satisfied in your quest for a "special" cruise.
Hi all your reservations about the food, entertainment and dress codes will be dispelled one the first night.Your wife will have a holiday to remember you will be treated like royalty. It is a wonderfull sight to see the ladies dressed in their finery. Please do not have any sleepless nights just look forward to quality and a class above the rest.Best regards Stev.
