Find Your Cruise
All around New York you will see double decker buses and ticket men on the street selling tours, they are amazing and travel all over the city you could spend all day on them. My suggestion is get on one of those that way your luggage stays with you and you get to see New York. But wrap up warm!!
It depends somewhat on which airport you are flying from, Newark or JFK but even then you will not have a huge amount of time to play with. There are very few places to leave luggage in NYC nowadays.
You can rent a day-time room in an hotel but that is expensive. You can rent a small car for the day and not drive it anywhere but leave it full of luggage or you can go to the airport and check it in. If you chose the latter the timetable is tight. 10am leave ship 11:30 check-in luggage 12 noon get taxi to NYC. Now, depending on what time your “Late Afternoon” flight is, get back to the airport from NYC so that you are there three hours before you flight. I will be interested to see other answers because this is an oft-recurring question…..Neil
If you have booked flights through Cunard including transfers from and to the airport, you may find that, because of necessity for disembarking passengers to leave the ship early in the morning, a tour of New York is included at no extra cost during your coach trip to the airport with a stop-off for lunch (for which you do have to pay!).
Re your arrival back in NY after your 10 day Caribbean cruise on the QM2 arriving 3 March... are you sure about your date as I will be sailing on the QM2 leaving NY on 29th Feb arriving back in NY on 10th March so I think you have your dates mixed up. I would recheck your details as it may affect your flights etc.
I can't think why I said I was returning on 3 March because I am actually returning on 10 March! Ooops. The flight home is 9pm from JFK (just received the confirmation). This means we will have most of the day free in New York. Again, any suggestions.
Glad you got your dates sorted out mixing dates up happens to the best of us and it looks like we will all be on the same cruise, cant suggest what to do after you disembark as we are staying a further 3 days but like someone suggested the open air tour buses might be a viable option as for your luggage wouldnt fancy dragging all them large suitcases around all day perhaps someone may know if they have a left luggage at Grand Central Station
We did the same cruise in December, our flight not leaving until 6.30 pm. Having thought of booking a tour to fill the day, we were delighted to have tour tickets delivered free of charge a cuople of days before the end of the cruise. From comments made previously, this may well be the norm for passengers with late flights. we also had a lunch stop at a quayside shopping mall in Manhattan. If you do the same, go for the chinese or japanese offerings (you are offered 'tasters' before buying). They looked very good value. Whatever you do don't try the Irish Bar. Looked quite authentic, but microwaved package food that tasted like the cardboard it no doubt came in!!
